6.0L PSD timeline of changes
Where can I find information on how the 6.0L evolved over its short lifespan? When it first came out...it had VGT turbo and pilot injection to quiet everything down etc. But I think the 07 version is different as are the other variants. I'd like to know what happened from year to year...and why one version is better than the other, and due to what? People say...get an 06 or 07 to avoid problems...but what makes them better?
How many flashes were introduced and what where they to solve? Were there to many to list? If a person buys an 05, 06 or 07 that seems to be doing fine...should they go to a dealership and get the latest flash anyhow? I'm curious if the latest software programming from Ford is a good thing to have. Seems like there are so many variations of "flashes". I would suspect if you need anything done to your truck these days...your going to get the latest flash...even if the one you got in 2004 works perfect for your truck. Just trying to understand. |

The changes made on 2005 models were mostly mechanical related to the HPOP and EGR equipment, not electronic. A flash on an 03 or 04 is basically the same as the flash on an 05-07... BTW, the latest flash helps cure injector sticking, especially when they are cold. You should strongly consider it.

I bought a technical manual off of Ebay called 6.0 powerstroke tips and tricks
It is supposedly one of the books they train the ford/Navistar techs with, It is priceless on service and techinical info for the 6.0 and it also explains the running changes ford and Navistar made to the engine. I think everyone with mechanical knowledge who owns one of these engines should have it. cost about 80.00 bucks. |
