2006 throttle response characteristics
In my search for the right 6.0L...I have a few questions about a 2006. I've owned a 92 Dodge Cummins 250 and a 1999 Cummins 2500. They are great trucks in many respects. But I've become more interested in a 6.0L Ford lately even after all the reading of "horror" stories etc. I think with info from this site and the right truck...I can get what I'm looking for out of a 6.0L.
Anyhoo...tonight I drove a 2006 F350 SRW SuperCab short bed, ZF 6spd, XL trim with cruise and tilt, vinyl seating, 4x4 and off road FX4 pkg, chrome bumpers, Class V factory hitch. Its a super clean, dent free truck with only 32,000 miles. Maroon with tan interior that has a black trim inlay in places, vinyl floor, and the jewel headlights. Even for an XL it looks classy. Usually XL's are dullish. But this one looks great and more stylish because of the color combo. All it needs is an XLT chrome grille and some wheels better than the gray steelies. A "country girl" owned it. Her dad bought it for her to pull her 1 horse trailer but she didn't like such a big truck. So she traded it in for a new Chevy 08 1500. After driving...I really liked it. I've driven a 2006 CrewCab Longbed but didn't like the overall length. This was a better fit for me. I liked the Auto in the CrewCab...but don't mind the 6 speed in this one. I did notice one thing however. The throttle response seems strange. When sitting in neutral...if I tap the throttle...it seems like it "hangs" for a split second then comes back down slower than I expect. I'm used to the Cummins. Instant and sharp throttle. This one seemed like it responded split second slower than what my foot wanted to see. And hung onto the RPM's when I let up...for a split second. So when I drive by you, push in the clutch, and quickly tap the throttle to give you an exhaust pipe note...it just sounds like it RPM's up ok...then like I"m letting off of the pedal slow. But its fully released. Is this for driveability? |

OASIS report was clean. I got it from the servicing Ford dealership on this truck.
Recall for Code P2140 - Software Revision Flash - fixed Some problem with the radio - fixed Something loose inside the front driveshaft tube...rattle - no fix known Rear Axle vent tube came loose - fixed. Still under full factory warranty. $25000 But still has strange throttle response. To me at least. |

No. I actually ended up buying a 2005 FX4 PSD with an auto transmission. But believe it or not...the guy that lives directly behind me bought the truck in this thread I was looking at originally. To my knowledge he never saw it as an issue and has well over 100K on the truck now. He uses it to pull a tandem axle trailer hauling a large skid steer loader and a host of concrete finishing tools. He's a retired concrete finisher that now does small jobs like drives and walks.
