The 5R110 is controlled by solenoids. There is no such thing as a valve body upgrade for them. The TCM is far more then capable of doing what you want but it needs proper programming to do so. The only upgrades you should ever need for a 5R110 is clutches and steels once you are well over 500 hp. Until then you just need tuning that programs the tranny as well as the engine.

Billet shafts are an inexpensive upgrade while in there and much needed if pushing up the HP/TQ. Look at Suncoast rebuild kits. Check out Precision Industries torque converters. For complete trannies check NADP and their heavy-hauler. Also John Wood and BTS (Brians Truck Stop) are famous for their 4r100 work. They are both working on the 5r's now and may have some ideas for you. Between all these you should be covered from a minor upgrade to a complete replacement.

amp, Is the 5r110 considered a 'new' tranny by most? Or has it been figured out in terms of how to mod it?

Not sure "figured out" would be the best description but things have improved dramatically in the last year. The 5R was strong as as far as OEM stuff is concerned but since aftermarket guys have had 4-5 years to work on improvements the 5R's are getting much better.

Suncoast has continually updated their rebuild kits w/ more solenoids, external filter, etc and others such as NADP ($$$) have developed total trannys that are quite impressive. A year ago there wasn't near as much for the 5R. Pretty well figured out but always room for improvement.
