Lets start with the what EGR stands for.
Then, what is it for? I've seen tuner programs that turn it off or is that for if it has been removed? Any info would be greatly appreciated

I spent a month in the Philippines over the last year. 85 percent of the vehicles there are diesel (non-epa )because diesel IS cheaper there. The air in the city there was very rough to deal with.(.almost as bad as our cities were during the leaded gas years). On a positive note...the soot didnt carry too far outside the city.Upon my return, I was amazed at how clean the air was,in of all places LAX |

The EGR cooler is designed to cool the small amount of exhaust that is being reinjected into your manifold. Unfortunately, they have a poor design and end up being a weak link on the 6.0L trucks. Mine's been replaced a few times and is now blocked off.

What all do you have to do to block it off? Will it throw a code?
