I just got a 04 with 60K and looking at intake and Chip performance upgrades, what are some of the more popular and reliable ones that folks are using out there and can recommend?

For the 6 liter I'd go with the SCT Programmer w/ tunes by DJ's "Looney Tune", Innovative Diesel and a AFE or Airaid intake and you'll definately want to get some gauges Boost, Egt, Trans and a 4 inch exhaust system

Unless you're going extreme on your mods the stock intake will be much more than adequate for just a tuner. Use that money to buy some gauges and a good exhaust system to go with the SCT.

The truck I bought is used, Previous owner spent lots of $ on it already such as 4" lift, remote res/shocks, 4" stainless exhaust, air bags, rims, etc. But, didn't do anything for performance other than the exhaust and he left the cat on. So, my $ I want to spend on power upgrades, but this is also my daily driver, so I dont want to blow it up. As far as gauges, I understand that some of the new tuners have all the gaugers already built in and monitor vitals? are they reliable?
Thanks for any help. |

the only "tuners" with gauges built in are things like the edge or banks or other not so good ones, you will want to get an SCT flash programmer it is the best thing for the 6.0
get a good egt/boost/tranny temp/fuel pressure.. a cheap mod would be a straight pipe to eliminate the cat this will really help with EGT's once you get your SCT. the stock intake is more than enough, i'm pushing 500HP and i just put a stock intake BACK on my truck and it runs better. no BS. boost gauge is nice but not necessary right away, the egt is the biggie to have for sure. tranny temp can wait if you dont tow or race, and fuel pressure is needed when you run a really high powered tune especially if you have aftermarket injectors. |

The SCT Livewire has the gauges built in

Welome to SCT.ORG, I mean Powerstroke.org, that would be another vote for the SCT! Hands Down!

I like regular gauges or you can do something like a commander from Quadzilla. Those 2 things, and maybe a cat delete pipe and you will be good to go. |

SCT huh? I though for sure more people would tell me bullydog or edge stuff, I gotta go with what works and what folks like you recommend. The cat looks like a no brainer, How much lourder does it get without it?
It also appears, that the previous owner installed a down pipe along with the 4" exhaust, so thats a bonus. |
