I've got a chunk sound when going from reverse to drive and while driving if I let off throttle and then back on it clunks. Conventional wisdom tells me U-joint, but I've been underneath a few times this past week looking and can't seem to find anything. U joint are good, no play in rear gears. What do you guys think??

I've checked the carrier bearing. It doesn't appear to look worn, but does have a lot of play. But I've been told that it's ok because the big rubber one has a lot of play. Trans mount looks ok to. But of course, just cause they "look" ok, doesn't mean they are.

Does it have a split drive shaft? I know I had a clunk in mine that had split drive shaft. I just had to grease the splines in the split. My brother in law had on 04' and I remember the same clunk being there when shifting. Here is a link to a how to for the 7.3's. I couldn't imagine it being much different for a 6.0.
