So im getting my parts and thoughts together for my stud install and injectors are on my list. Im a big fan of "might as well do it while im there". Plus thats how i pitch it to the wife. My injectors have about 110k on them so i figure they could use a refresher. So if they are getting worked i should drop the extra coin and get them opened up to either 155s or 175s for more power and better fuel economy. A new turbo to compliment the new injectors is on the list but i doubt it will be in this go round due to funds. So bigger injectors with a stock turbo, whats the outcome? Obviously i will have a tune written for this so will that cure most of the downside? Can i still tow like this or will my egts be too high? Will i be smoking people out? Im looking for efficiency, power and an overall happier truck. Thanks
When u put a better turbo in and bigger injectors on a tow tune. Would that limit how much u can tow. Or can u still tow up to what the truck can stock?
EGTs pretty much are the limiting factor to how much you can tow. You can have your tuner pull pulsewidth to keep the EGTs in check when you are towing. I have towed around 8-10k with my old 185/70s and stock 03 turbo multiple times. The trick was to use a tune that was designed for towing with those injectors.
I am pretty much in the same boat...I have heard 175/stock works fine with the OEM turbo, but I don't know how they would fare with my 8,000# TT in tow.
So am i correct to assume that the extra heat produced by the larger injectors would be corrected by a lager turbo? Fuel raises the egts and air counter acts this?
That is correct!
Unless you buy a big turbo that can't spool worth a darn... Then it will be laggy.
The hybrid is a great air mover and spooler.
Actually I think most vgt turbos are good there.
Or if getting HUGE injectors, you can get a twin turbo setup and still tow:evillol:
Lol
Chris B. from TSD. I'm currently running the super panty dropper written for both this turbo and my injectors. I have inquiries in at Tony Wildman and Total Diesel Performance and Bill Cohron at PHP for tunes and will eventually be calling Eric at IDP and Matt at Gearheads. I want to see what each tuner can bring to the table. I won't run Vivian's tunes on my truck anymore they feel like they are going to break something.
Cool. Keep us/me updated on what they can do and how you like it. The parts are worthless without the right tune. I just want something reliable that will take advantage of all my new parts. Thanks
LOL not exactly sure on that Adam. LOL I spoke with Sheldon last night and he got me thinking about trips actually lol but that is just a wee bit of overkill for 215's lmao.
Would towing with 155 and stick nozzles I have heard this can be done cheaply. Maybe some kind of powermax with banks techni cooler and sb intake and I'm gonna get Eric to write he tow tune. I know its nor much over stock but thoughts on towing with that? Sorry to jack a thread.
No jacking here. Im trying to figure out a combo. I think i have mine figured out. From what i hear the stock cooler is adequate. Maybe look into a meth set up?
I vote 175 stock nozzle with a ported intake. Turbo later.
