I got trans fluid coming from the top of the trans and down the side, very small amount. Is that a symptom of a rear main leak? An independent shop and a dealer both said its coming from the pan and furthest rear line on psngr side. So why would I see it coming from the top of the trans.
it more than likely is not the rear main seal as that is uncommon on these trucks it seems almost all of these trucks have tiny amounts of oil back there that can come from many things. i think most of it is from oil changes when people pull the filter out some is spilled each time and when the engine gets hot it runs down and same when filling if some is spilled it runs down the same area. also if your leaking any around the turbo area back there is also runs down same area. check some of that first.. grab a towel and wipe off as much oil as you can then drive a tank of fuel and check to see how much oil has returned then post back.
Thanks guys. The ICP is leaking but this is trans fluid, not motor oil. Anyways, it was diagnosed as a leaky adapter between the line and trans cooler itself. So the wind was pushing it back along the line and causing it to drip from 3 or so separate spots making it hard to pinpoint. Real slow, small leak. Gonna get it fixed next wednesday along with the ICP and the install if a bpd water pump:rockwoot:
just the fact that you say trans fluid rules out rear main seal, that seal OIL from the crankcase.
i would suspect a front pump leak, and air is pushing it around when you drive.
or as stated, bad fitting and it is just blowing onto the housing....shoot everything with brake clean, and go for a drive
the front pump is basically the cover that seal all the tranny interneals. located behind the convertor,
