Oil Filter Install

After my last oil change this got me wondering. The Motorcraft filter instructions state too remove cap and filter (filter attached too cap). Install new filter into housing. Screw on cap. My filter wasnt attached too the cap upon removal.
I wonder if I should attach my new filter too the cap prior too install.

Thanks T.

I dont think it matters really. Sometimes the filter stays attached to the cap when I change oil, and sometimes it stays in the housing.

Be thankful it didn't stay on the cap. The last oil change I just did, the filter stuck in the cap. When I tried to pull it out it came apart and left the end of the filter stuck inside the cap. What a pain trying to get it out...............
