vgt turbo question .

so basicly the turbo kicks in when needed, like going down a hill i don't see any boost . so when the guage reads 0 boost , how accurate is that ? is the turbo set at a min. boost level at idle or is there no boost . reason i ask is if it had a set min . like 3 or 5 psi would that help with lag at take off ? and would custom tuning be able to do this ?

Tuning will help considerably with the boost lag, but won't eliminate it. Oh, and when the gauge reads 0, it means there is 0 psi of manifold pressure. The stocker doesn't read as accurately as an aftermarket gauge, but 0 is true enough...

At idle it won't make any boost because there isn't enough exhaust pressure to spin the turbo fast enough. When I use my high idle it makes 1 psi according to my gauge.

exactly. No stock turbo at an idle can spin the turbo fast enough to build boost. Its all about drive pressure, which is exahust gas....and at idle there just isnt much.
