Cost of an oil change
Got sticker shock yesterday. Dropped by my local Ford dealer for a first oil change on my F350. They were advertising fairly competitive prices on instant oil change, and I didn't want to entrust my beauty to the cheap oil change places.
The bill came to one hundred bucks. Fifty for the oil, thirty for the filter, twenty for labor. Ouch! That bites. Does that seem high priced? How much can I expect to pay if I do it myself? And what's a good high quality oil and filter that I can use? Two things I never go cheap on a vehicle, brakes and oil. |

I do my own for about $50 bucks. That is using Motorcraft filter and Rotella T 15W-40.

And get a container that holds 15 quarts of used motor oil.

yeah thats about right, i found that as much as I dont like to shop at walamar they are the cheapest on Rotella T 15W-40, and at my local ford stealership the oil filter is like 21.25. The five gallon bucket slides right under the drain plug it also wont hurt to drain your water fuel seperator.

4 gal of Rotella at 8.88 per gal = $35.52
1 filter = $10 A bit under $50 with tax. |

I do it for less, because I buy a 50 gal, barrels it comes out to like 35 bucks an oil change, and I do it like every 2500 miles.
