Registering my truck in AZ
I've moved from CA to AZ (so I could get away from the commies and also not have a bullet button on my gun, lol). Anyway, I know AZ has emissions/smog testing, my question is do I need to put my CAT back on when I go to register the truck at the MVD? Will they do the check there?

Congratulations on escaping the People's Republic of Kalifornia! I escaped in 1998.
Zmann lives in the Valley, he could give you the latest and greatest information on diesel emissions testing. When I left AZ in 2006, OBDII vehicles were a simple hook up. Talk to some performance shops, a shop in Phx told me that they could drop my cats (2004 Mustang GT), install a MIL (Malfunction Indication Light) eliminator into the aft O2 bungs, and the car would pass emissions. |

Not sure about out of state vehicle inspections when you register at DMV in AZ , but emmisions are a joke. They do not plug into the OBDII port in the truck but they do check for EGR cooler, Cat and then a particulate test (sensor over exhaust to measure emitted particulates). A diesel truck with no EGR and Cat will pass all day but you have to have them on as they check for these.

all depends on where you are going to live. If up in east LA yes you will need to have all the emissions stuff as well as in baja az (pima co). East la (maricopa co) has stricter requirements than does baja, but both require visual check for cats etc. If you live in one of the other counties then you will (may be) home free. The check for a diesel is to put a probe in the tailpipe and measure for particulates. They do a visual, on the engine not sure what they are looking at/for. I do run cat, and do have the egr although the cable is disconnected! had 7% particulates on last test with a hypertech economiser tune.

ps guess you know you only have about 10 days to register. Notice that you are in baja az, I use the emissions shop on valencia for my annual.

ya they do a visual for egr and cat
then make you go WOT as a snap idle opacity test ,, this happens 3 times I suggest no tunes and all stuff in place now if your moving to a outlying area like Tucson or Flag ( EDIT I see you are Tucson ) ,, it won't be a problem since most don't test ,, so hit up the AZPSG for local info need any help ? hit me up I just passed 5 days ago LOL but you should be fine |

I live in East LA, AZ and yes they check for CAT and EGR. The first time I did the WOT test mine failed went to a shop where I new a guy from scouts. He told me to only put the pedel about 3/4 the way down will still give the same rpms but some trucks puff a little smoke when you hit the floor board with the pedel. So within one hour of the first test I went to another station and did what he said and it passed with flying colors.

I'm am south east of Tucson in Corona de Tucson (Vail). Depending on the address and if you work or go to school in Tucson is whether you have to have a check. I am lucky and don't have to worry about it where I am. I will have to fill out a form and that is it. I moved out here in October and still haven't registered since I still own my house in Illinois.
