Diesel Power mag Dec. 07
I read the article in Diesel Power the other day on installing the ARP head studs in the 6.0.(page 162-168) So, Diesel Power and the "Ford trained crew" at Diesel Tech say that after you lift the body of your truck off the frame, tear the whole top of the motor off, pay $450 plus for a set of ARP head studs, do preventive maintenance on the injectors(o-ring and copper gaskets).........you "CLEAN AND REUSE THE HEAD GASKETS". This clearly is a 2003-2004.25 engine based on the pics in the mag, and since it is almost 2008, probably has a few miles on it. Ford/Navistar don't want you to even reuse the head bolts for any reason. I'm sorry, but if I go that deep into a truck or an engine, I'd spend a couple hundred bucks on some new head gaskets. Am I missing something here about this article?

Does seem kind of silly, but I'm not Diesel Tech. But I agree with you that if your balls deep already in something like that, it sure would make me feel a whole lot better just to put some gaskets in there, sure couldn't hurt nothing, and what's another couple hundred bucks when your already spending a ton.
The most frustrating part is doing all that spending the doe, and I'm still spitting coolant like a stuck pig. |

from what I heard the head gaskets for these 6.0ls are outrageous in price

They are all over Ebay for less than $250 a set. What does Ford charge in labor to put on a set $2000? $4000?

There only 77.64 each gasket. bought me a set a week ago.
