mine came with what looked like a nut,I plugged the cord into the block then tightened it, It didn't turn a lot but it did snug down. I use a heavy duty extension cord, and its a tight fit from the block heater cord the my extension cord.

heater cord lock ring
Hey Guys. I just finished installing the Ford dealer purchased cord on my 06 F-250. The heater which is already in the block has 2 prongs set into it surounded by a threaded boss. I have seen 2 types of cord - one which has a chrome colored retaining ring that matches the threads and gets tightened after the cord is plugged in - or the one like mine that has a gold colored ring with 2 prongs - this ring gets pushed stright on without turning. As you push the ring on - the prongs will snap on the threads until it bottoms out and the ring locks the cord end on the heater.
