Swapped From BPD 4 Phase 48v FICM to BPD 6 Phase 58v FICM!

Ok so I got tired of looking at all of the boxes of parts sitting in my bedroom today and being that the frac tank haul we had scheduled for work today got canceled because of all of the snow we got last night, I decided to take this "opportunity" to swap FICM's in 25* weather with about 8" of snow on the ground.

This is how I "plow" or "shovel" snow.

Used the wifey's car to run over the snow and pack it down so I wasn't trudging in it. LOL shoveling is too much work.

Truck after I brushed most of the snow off of it so I could work on it.

Video of the 48v 4 Phase before swapping.

Ok so now that is over with I first started by selecting the voltage I wanted to run on the BPD 6 Phase FICM.

If you want to run 53v cut this wire.

For 58v cut this wire.

Next remove the FICM from the engine compartment and start disassembling it by removing the T20 Torx screws on the bottom of the case.

Then flip the unit over and remove the test cover by removing the 2 T20 Torx screws.

Cover removed.

Next, remove the 4 T10 Torx screws from under the test cover.

Then take a small (and I mean small) flat tip screw driver and start splitting the two halves by using it to pry them apart. Once you have it apart it's time to reassemble.

Take the new BPD half shell and lay it face down, then take the OEM bottom half and install it onto the BPD half shell. Install the T20 Torx screws and hand tighten them first then go back over and give them a little torque, be careful not to over tighten them.

Flip the unit back over and install the 4 T10 Torx screws. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.

Next Install the test cover with the 2 T20 Torx screws and snug them up.

Now your ready for reinstallation in the engine compartment.

Done!!

Video after installing the new FICM.

I'm not 100% but I think it has made it idle a little smoother now. What do you guys think?

LOL didn't need to. I have swapped shells 4 times now and it has never came off of the OEM bottom half shell, but good point.

I know you're uploading videos but what kind of difference did you notice going from ficm? Stock, to 4 phase, to 6 phase? I need to get one in the future and can't decide if I actually need the 6.

Everytime I look at under hood pix of your truck......all can think is those wires coming off the oil filter housing look awful! Lol. Either put that oil cooler kit on or I'm going to send you some loom.

Oh and are you not running grommets on your ficm?

I think the biggest advantage to the 6 phase is the extra circuits. I was going to buy the 4 phase but ken made me deal on the 6 I couldn't pass up.

Lol I know. I hate those wires as well and installing the ficm is a little less invasive and a lot less work than installing an oil cooler kit right now lol. So it looks like your gonna be sending me some loom .

It has grommets in the back but when I pulled it all apart for the first time there never were any grommets for the front. I plan on going to the hardware store and getting some rubber bushings, washers and nuts to secure the front at some point in the near future though.

To be honest when I went from stock to the 4 Phase my OEM one was on its way out. So installing the 4 Phase was night and day. I haven't done any driving yet with the new one so as far as performance goes I couldn't really tell you yet. As far as start up goes to me it starts the same on the 58v but seems to idle a tad smoother. The nice thing about the 6 phase are the added redundancy circuits and they are more heavy duty than the 4 phase. Either way no matter which one you choose you won't be let down!
