Torque converter unlock switch

Ok, here is what I am going to do. A momentary push button switch to unlock my converter. Why? Because with my new 71 mm turbo and new sect tune by Eric my converter locks up and won't unlock unless I tap the brake. I need it to unlock sometimes when the tranny is in on o the last two highest gears and I'm am cruising but need to accelerate. With the converter locked I am at about 1500 to 1700 rpm and can't spool up the turbo. I need to be at 1800 to 2000 rpm to really get a quick spool up. If I tap the break the converter unlocks and it works great. Does anyone have any ideas as how to do this. The only thing I can come up with is to find the wire from the brake pedal that sends the signal to the computer and determine what that signal is (volts or ground) and get it duplicated through a momentary pushbutton. I have seen a few threads on this topic, but it was to do the opposite - lock the converter.

Find the TC lockup wire, probably a ground, and break the circuit with a normally closed switch, so you open the circuit when you push it.

That sounds like a simple tuning issue. a tc unlock switch would get old after a while

I have asked the tuner to fix it and the next program sucked so bad the truck was barely drive able. No matter what speed or rpm if I gave it even 5% throttle it shifted up and I was bogged down. I asked to fix it again and no response. I am not at all impressed with the seemingly tuning mill at that place - Eric the tuning guy. Thus, unless I can find someone to tune the converter lock properly, I am stuck either tapping the brake or installing the momentary pushbutton, both of which are pathetic rigs.

Jesilvas that is exactly what I was thinking and from what I read there is a certain color wire under driver side of truck going to solenoid in tranny that grounds to lockup converter so if I do what you said I am golden. Kind of like downshifting cause the converter spinning makes a huge difference to rev the motor versus lockup, which is great to hold the power, but I have no power at times to hold due to lockup and inability to rev up.

I had an early lock written into a tune and didn't care for it (IDP Extreme tune). Rolling up an on ramp on trying to accelerate, but not hammer it, made my truck look like I had a 24V swap. BOOOO!!!!!! When a lock up is written into a program, it locks at that speed regardless of pedal position unless you are really on it. If I was accelerating through the lock speed (42 mph indicated/45 mph actual), I would get a turbo fart. There was also a big kick when I cancelled CRUISE unless I throttled up, THEN canceled cruise.

What I found that would make it lock a little closer to normal was the TOW/HAUL button. I'd try that before cutting and splicing wires in whatever harness you have your eye on.

The final cure was installing Matt's SRL tune. From the first load the shifts were pretty good, including lock up.

Karl, thanks for sharing that because my tine is the very same tune. I could not have explained the problem better. At this point, I am OK with the tun except for the one issue. Ididn't think my tow/haul button worked anymore. I thought it was tuned out or something. It has not worked since I was using canned SCT tunes. Am I wrong? Could there be a fuse or something that is bad? I would rather try / use that buton first before rigging up a bunch of crap.

I don't remember if the TOW/HAUL was exactly the same as untuned, but it did allow me to accelerate through 42 mph and not lock the converter/turbo fart. Give it a try, what could it hurt.

BTW, I had never could talk directly to Eric when I called IDP, we only communicated via email. My Extreme Tune makes great power, but it shifts funky and has that "light switch" effect.

Yeah, I pictures Eric lying on the beach watching girls walk by while someone else just shot his pre-done tunes to us. This is just the thought that crossed my mind while I was emailing them back and forth. LOL I know there is a way to tune it out because all I have to do is tap the brake and bam I am in. It is just ridiculous to tapthe brake to have to accelerate. I may take ZMANN's advice.
