My 6.0 has intermittent starting. Ford said all components are O.K. It was starting at the time. Went home and about 1/2 hour later, cranks - won't start. Two hours later, started right up - 4 times in a row. I have replaced the FICM, FICM harness, glow plug controller, PCM power relay. This problem has been going on for months. No codes in the PCM. Never had codes in the PCM even when it was missing with the bad FICM. When I go to start it, starting is like a crap shoot. I cannot take it anywhere with confidence. Any suggestions?

Is it always warm when it won't start?

Any smoke out of the exhaust while cranking?

My truck is 2004 with 109k miles, no smoke great mpg. The won't start is sporadic and sometimes cold, very cold, warm you name it.

Well, have you started with the basics? FICM voltage, battery condition? Anyway of monitoring what the motor is doing when cranking?

The ford tech monitored all components, FICM, PCM and said all voltages are good. I did not do voltages when it did not start. I have to pull the parts to get to the FICM to remove plate to check voltages and by the time I let it cool down to tear into it, it starts. Tomarrow I will try to drive it and make it "no start" and turn it off in my driveway, then I will be able to pull parts and check voltages. The FICM has been replaced along with the wiring harness.

I also put new batteries in it this week.

If you get it to not start, unplug the ICP sensor and see if it starts. Do that before trying to check FICM voltage, it's much easier.

Where is the ICP sensor?
