blocked egr and turbo whistle?

since i blocked off up pipe to egr cooler and unplugged the egr valve my truck seemed to have lost loudness of the turbo whistle...especially at idle when it used to cycle the turbo now it just stays muffled.any way to get some whistle back? i thought i was doin good bypassing the egr system??


2003 psd 6.0
red crewcab
16" suspension lift, 48" michelin xml's on 20x10 black rockstars, 6000k hid's, crossover steering, zoodad mod, ccv mod, modified up pipe to delete egr cooler,high idle mod, mbrp 3.5 downpipe, train horns(also on remote), diamond plate tool box, recon smoked cablights, Code670 alarm/remote start,100w reverse lights, oil-based underbody paint
**soon to purchase SCT rockwell 2.5 ton frt/rear
-8,520lbs with me in it

I have the opposite problem with my truck, my wife was even telling me that it is much louder. And definatley a much deeper groan.

i see that you have the high idle mod. when i put this on my 6.0 i kinda lost the whistle starting up then cycling too. i took the high idle off and it does it now.

its on a switch so i can turn it off and on..usually off

i think i like the egr system, i feel like it has a purpose in life or it wouldnt have been there in the first place, does anyone know what it is though?



On vacation from a truck for a year or...
Looking at 6.4s Moving in a few months then hopefully buying my dream truck!!!

Driving an Audi till then...
but at work I drive
16 E-450s 7.3 powerstroke Ambulances
7 Duramaxes
1 GMC Kodiak Ambulance

NO CUMMINS.....

the EGR system is just like a gasser's egr system. it sents inert (inburnable air with no oxigen) into the cylenders at times when the computer thinks it wont be needed. If the EGR system functions properly (no sticking valves...no failed EGR coolers)....you wont EVER notice a power loss or gain from it functioning or not functioning...

the main gain by disabling your EGR system in a 6.0 is eliminating EGR cooler failures....no other realistic gains will be noticed...
