2003.5 F250 super-duty 6.0L powerstroke type writer tick
I'm new to the forum and recently perchased a 2003.5 F250 Superduty with 270,000km on it. The truck came with a FS2500 Bypass Oil Filter, magnaflow catback exhaust, Edge CTS Insight monitor and a 2 year warrenty. I perchased the 6.0L powerstroke with its downfals in mind. I've driven the truck 5,000km and heres what I've done so far -
Changed oil to rotella T 15W40 (switching to 5w40 for the winter)
Cleaned EGR Valve
The truck is running well. Had a bit of white smoke but I cleaned the EGR Valve and it was soon solved. My only concern is the type writer tick.
It is only notable when the passanger window is down or when passing a building/bushes, etc. I've done some research and apparently this is also an issue with newer ford motors. Some threads have reccemended XL-17 oil additive which has mixed reviews. I know the tick doesn't effect performance but it makes the truck sound crappy.
So far I've decided to switch to 5w40 for the winter with the XL-17 oil additive to aid the tick, straight pipe in place of the muffler, EGR Delete, SCT Tuner and a tune to aid the straight pipe and EGR Delete. any advice and/or tips?
