Water separator
I just pulled the water separator plug to see if I had any water built up in the chamber and it smelled like it was just plain diesel. The question is do I let it drain completely out? I let it drain for only about 5 seconds. No check engine lights on the dash, just messing around.

Yeah you have to pay real close attention and have good lighting to see the water come out then it's followed by a stream of diesel fuel. I usually drain about two cups if i'm changing the filter also. Feel free to drain it for 5-10secs once a month or more often, regular maintenance, can't hurt.

It's more common in humid areas of the country. I never drain it except when I change my fuel filters every 10k miles. We have 10% humidity, though...
