First Time 6.0 Owner

Hello All!

Name is David and I am located in the Detroit, MI area. I recently purchased an 04 F250 with the 6.0L and a warranty (I like factory warranties).

My question is - what should be my first concerns about this engine and it's longevity and what would would be the first thing to do to make sure I cn keep her running well?

Thanks,

David

Your very first step is to get a monitor in the truck ASAP so you can always monitor engine vitals. It is absolutely critical with ownership of a 6.0 to have a monitor. By farthe single most important mod you could ever do to your 6.0. That said and if you need to order a monitoring solution let me know and I'll get you hooked up!

A monitor.......Write Up: Monitoring the 6.0L PSD.

Then a coolant filter, then check your fuel pressure. You may need the updated blue spring for the fuel pressure regulator.
Welcome.

Most of the trucks run fine, but many owners have experience problems as their trucks got older. I don't know if anyone has made it without at least one injector change? Your truck may be fine; but on the other hand, it could be running well with underlying problems waiting to cause you catastrophic failure, after you are off warranty. Make sure you get the monitors set up before you go off warranty. And learn what the impending signs of disaster are. That way, if anything is out of spec you will know and the fix won't be on your dime!

Welcome!

Head studs will save your engine. Do it now before you end up with a leaky head gasket that could cause a number of other problems.

Thanks Everyone!

I guess I will need to get a monitor

My next question would be "Does the monitor void my warranty?" (I purchased the 3yr 36000 mile warranty (Bumper to Bumper) in case things go wrong. I would think that the "monitor" would not but any custom "tunes" might?

Everyone feel pretty good with the TS5015 and would you recommend the "EGT" add-on?

If your not looking to have your warranty voided I suggest going with only a monitor. Even Ford's ESP warranty they will fight you tooth and nail on any and all claims and will try to void your warranty if you have a SCT Livewire in there that doubles as a monitor and programmer. If you want to stay on the safe side then get a monitor only then after your warranty get a programmer. In short a monitor will not void the warranty but it has to be a monitor only. A combo programmer/monitor can and most likely will be a cause for them to void your warranty. Hope this helps. Feel free to pm me if you would like more help in your decision.
