newbie Question about MPG's

Hey everyone, first let tel ya what I got:
A new to me 2006 F 250 CC lariat w/ 155k 305/65 18 BFG's AT, EGR Delete (PO said it was) FICM Repaired 90,000 again relying on PO. Purchased 2 weeks ago. I have put about 1000 miles on. I've read a lot about the MPG's and not seen my problem, so here it is.

Done my research on the 6.0, I understand about the problems and understand the delete fixes most of it. Drove the truck about 7hrs home after purchase. Averaged about 17mpg's on the highway. Driving around town it has dropped drastically! Last check with the onboard was around 10. What gives? What do I need to look for? Going to have All filters and fluids changed next week. It is not a DD, but does get drove a couple times a week.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

get a monitor to make sure the engine is running as good as it seems to be. driving in town killed my mileage also. I am averaging 13-14 with a mix of both but most of it being in town.

Thanks. Looking at monitors. Seems like the favorite is the SCT...
Noticed that the coolant was a little low today. Its dry underneath and I'm not smoking...
