The more mods I did to mine the better my mileage got. For instance when we bought the truck we were told it averages 18 mpg. WRONG!!! More like 10-12 on a good week. Then I got new tires, oil cooler kit, flushed the cooling system and added CAT EC-1 ELC, replaced leaking egr delete, retuned with new custom tunes and added a coolant filter. (Yes I know most of that is preventative maintenance and repairs) Mileage increased ever so slightly to 14-15 average after that repair.
Then it sprung a HPO leak. Ended up replacing all stand pipes, dummy plugs, STC fitting, IPR valve and a brand new HPOP. Truck ran like a top again and increased the mileage just a tad more to typically just under 16 mpg all the time.
Next blew the head gaskets in late spring. So it sat parked for a while. Did new head gaskets, studs, new 175cc injectors, updated standpipes and dummy plugs (old-new ones weren't updated), updated turbo oil feed and drain tubes, ported rockers, new push rods, new glow plug harnesses, fixed leaking egr delete AGAIN (CHITTY SINISTER KIT), new power steering pump, switched to Rotella T6 Full Synthetic oil, BPD 4 Phase FICM, changed all filters (both fuel filters and oil filter) and retuned again for the new injectors and now it's averaging just over 19 mpg combined when I am not beating the chit out of it.
Here soon I'll be adding a new turbo and installing my BPD oil cooler kit. I'll keep you updated lol.
