Holy smokes batman

So, woke up to no power this morning at 0530. Went out and reset the main breaker and was waiting for my wife to get out of my shower when I smelled electrical wires burning. I go to the fbreaker box in the house and give it a love tap and......BAM out comes flames and sparks. Guess I will have to add this to my list too.

wow, that sucks. good luck. I assume this problem is your house only...or are there other houses on your street without power?

Very interesting. It's never fun to wake up and smell burning wires!

Pictures can be deceiving, but it looks like a 100 amp feed to your indoor breaker box. It takes a lot of amps to melt the PVC on a wire that thick. Do you think it was an overload, loose wire or corrosion issue?

I was more like oh great what else...lol I don't know who wired it or when. It passed inspection.

That's never a good sign or a good way to start the day. At least the fireworks started while you were still home. That could have gotten real ugly.

Its all fixed now. New box and all new wiring and breakers. He said it looked kike whoever was in there last pinched some wires and it had been arcing just a little until it damaged the wires enough to do what it did. That would have been the damn inspector.

No it was built in the 80's my other house which has no issues was built in 2001 but it gets rented out...lol
