Clutch chatter or something else?

I've got a ceramic and Kevlar south bend clutch in my 04, and it makes a lot of noise taking off. I've driven a standard transmission my whole life and I realize that slipping the clutch isn't ideal, but the bottom line is there's times that you dont have an option. it sounds like nails on a chalkboard, especially under a load. It's kind of embarrassing, really. Is this normal for a ceramic type clutch or should is it something I need to check out?
