freaking motor won't start again, popped like a backfire in a gas rig then went to a free crank condition, no smoke no nothing. will be putting an insight in tomorow, will this monitor show some codes so I will at least have an idea where to start looking. just recently the oil cooler was changed and a new cam sensor installed, worked fine for a week but now back to the same crap. I have been following this board since I bought the beast a 05 6.0 that is all stock with the exception of a newer turbo, 3rd one in 100k one last thought all the abreviations, went to the search but did not find them I remeber seeing them many moons ago can some one tell me where they were located, so I can understand what this insight is going to tell me, if anything. Thanks for any help or maybe i should just let it burn. Danny

Free crank? As in spins fast no compression?
Also did it pop when running or starting? Last edited by averageguy; 10-31-2012 at 04:29 PM. |

No, seems as tho it should start, acts like a gas rig that is out of gas, the first time it happened was right after starting, about 15 seconds later just died, started back up and on the way home about 5 minutes stopped at the corner, died again. start again easy also, couple seconds crank and fire. home and park overnite, morning try to start about 1/2 seconds, felt like it was going to fire, pop, and then just crank. Hope to put that insight in this AM and maybe it will show a code, if not will have to start running the T/S guide I pulled off this site, Don't know much about all the add ons on these motors but have been round tractor diesels for a few years. Always thought fuel, air timming and these things fire, way too many electronics on these motors for an old fart to keep up with, I do have a pretty good mech that understands some of it tho. got my fingers crossed

The insight will tell you everything the OBD II puts out, including DTC's. That gauge is the bee's knees.
But it can't read a DTC that ain't there. The truck has to issue the code first. Once issued, Insight will log it until you clear it. |
