okay i was going to finally get a video of exhaust on a cold start and when i turned the key to let plugs warm up this happened. i hard turned key earlier this morning to check the bat voltage and this didnt happen.
it was coming from the oil filter area under the hood. also is that smoke something to worry about? Last edited by jacksun; 10-29-2012 at 07:27 AM. |

not really sure about the noise coming from the engine... But I have a concern in not hearing the turbo through the exhaust very well.. That problem sounds like the vgt solenoid is not opening/closing correctly?

Sounds like you might have some injector stiction going on. That'd explain the smoke from excess fuel on start up too. I'd try running some Rev-X in it and see if it goes away. Also just a thought, but what was your FICM voltage when it was running like that?

im throwing a po275. the cylinder contribution/unbalance.
the injectors and glow plugs all have less than 1k miles/like less than a month ago . i stopped in the shop i had it done at today to have them check since they are still warrantied. said come tomorrow to check it out. it ran fine today. didnt do it on any other start ups or anything. still cant believe i caught that on video randomly. and you dont like the exhaust ![]() ![]() ![]() :p ficm never goes below 47.5 |

I would be pulling your EGR valve like I told you to before and check for coolant in the intake manifold. Don't know what that sound is but it would be a major cause for concern to me if it was my truck.

Yeah I don't know what that sound is either but if it was my truck the only running she would be doing would be onto a G/N.

Ah i forgot all about that man. I'm sorry. I'm not blowing off your info or help. I just got busy w other stuff and conpletely forgot to take out the valve and look.

There are only a couple of pumps that start with key on; fuel and vacuum come to mind. I get a rumble on occasion waiting for the pressure and glow plugs, but haven't got out to hear it from a different location. I suspect mine is the vacuum and emissions. Yours sounds a bit different.
You can certainly hear the misfire for a few seconds. I believe you will get the contribution error before any injector code during a start. It may be that you have a bad glow-plug in one cylinder, without a CEL hard code. It would be a good idea to put it on a diagnostic scanner if it has happened more than a few times (cycle the glow-plugs and injectors KOEO cold should tell the story). The smoke you see is probably the fuel being burned from the slow to fire cylinder, or just water vapour from a cold start. If it lasted longer, Tuscany had a good suggestion to check the intake. |

It sounds like an issue with the fuel water separator pump to me. Mine sounded like that right as it was going bad. Maybe no as loud though. You defiantly have a stiction like issue. Maybe check your harness making sure it's not melted or frayed anywhere.
