Should I buy?

I am looking at buying a 2003 f250 6.0 powerstroke. No new parts replaced under warranty on carfax. No problems from the 6.0 that the guy knows of. It has 165k miles and dont think its ever had a chip on it. Hes asking $9500, but says the truck has a communication issue between the power box and motor. It runs sluggish when cold. Should I buy it or not? Im only looking for a every day driving truck and sometimes pulling a horse trailer. Not wanting to add horsepower or anything like that.

Not sure on the sluggish issue, but do plan doing at the very least a egr delete. Was it a 1 owner? Get an oasis report and post it. Not sure car fax will tell you if parts has been replaced, though I could be wrong.

Carfax says branded title, buyback/lemon in 2004. First owner bought in 2003 and sold in 2004 with no problems. Second owner bought and reported as manufacturer buyback with 10,000 miles on the truck and it passed their safety inspection in missouri and they sold it at auction in texas. Third owner was reported in 2004 and had no problems reported and sold it in 2010. Then the fourth owner has it now and says he is selling to get rid of a payment. Says he has never had a problem with the truck. I am going to the ford dealer tomm to pull a oasis report to see exactly what was wrong with the truck. Should the carfax concern me?

It should bother you if you ever plan on selling it. I think I would stay away and look for an 05 or newer.

Well I only have $13000 to spend on a diesel so I cant afford an 05. I dont plan on selling unless it starts giving alot of trouble. I want a truck that I can keep for a real long time.

Rough trade in is $9800. . The truck retails for $15,575 on nada and the carfax says this vehicle is worth $270 more than average based on information in this report. So should I chance it at $9500? That will give me $3500 left over to fix it if anything happens. KBB is $14,564 in good condition.

I wouldn't pay them 9500 for it, I would offer 8. A oil cooler clog, egr rupture, blown headgasket, FICM failure or injector failure and that 3500 will be long gone.
