Need 6.0 Help for newbie
I am new to the 6.0 and need some help from the 6.0 experts out there. I own a '97 7.3 and talk intelligently about that model but I do not know enough on the 6.0 and would like some advice.
My wife was in an accident totaling her F150. Another driver crossed the lanes and hit her head on. Everyone is fine but we are now vehicle shopping. With the funds available to us she is looking at approx. $15,000 - $22,000 for a replacement truck. It would be daily driver and would pull a 21' bass boat occasionally (no heavy towing). We have decided not to buy another gas and are now in the market for another diesel. We are finding mostly 6.0's with approx. 120,000 - 180,000 miles. What are the major issues that I need to be asking about and what do I need to make sure has been done to see we are buying something reliable? I understand from the reading I have been doing that the oil coolant gets clogged causing most of the issues. What are some of the costs associated with the 6.0 and making it reliable. Any help, advice, pointers, constructive criticism. ect.. would be greatly appreciated. We are going to have to find something in the next few days to get her back on the road. Anything to help speed along the process will help. Thanks again. |

The egr coolers cause more issues than oil coolers...
For your price you can most likely find a studded 04-06 with egr issue resolved and a replaced oil coolers Sent from my Motorola Electrify using AutoGuide.Com Free App |

I came into possession of mine at 177k
Title says dealer buy back. - shop said it was probably the head gasket and studs. On cold start had no power. Wouldnt go over a curb until like 10-15 min of driving. Needed new injectors and glow plugs or so the shop said so I did them. It still is weak when cold. |

The egr coolers fail because the oil coolers clog and fail first.

Thank you for the responses. What kind of cost are we looking at to take care of the oil & egr coolers to keep them from becoming a problem?
