@ the drag strip... 2wd or 4wd?

Like the title says... What do you run/recommend at the track? My buddy clicked off a 14.5 in 4wd with the diablosport predator, but my bet is that he can do better in 2wd. He tried it in 2wd a couple times and he said he was just spinning the tires a lot. Mostly off the line, but they would chirp in 2nd and 3rd too. I still have a feeling that if he can feather the brake off the line, that he could put down better numbers. Hes only crossing the line doing about 85-90. What do you think?

It seems everyone I've read about do it in 4WD. I know with my Predator in the 100HP mode and 2WD, I'm like your buddy, it breaks 'em loose off the start, 2nd and 3rd.
I was at a light the other day and my lane was ending due to some road construction about 50 yards ahead. The mental midget next to me in an Explorer, was not about to let me over - to the extent of launching when the turning light came on and our light was still red. He stopped about a car length into the intersection, scaring the heck out of the cars turning. I figured with all the motocross racing stickers on his SUV he'd be like that and he was. It had just started raining so I just reached over, flipped into 4-High and when our light turned green just eased into it and was gone.......while he sat there spinning tires.

hmmm, i really would liek to experiment with this. maybe i can convince my dad to come to the track next time i take my car. It seems like if the motor only has to push half the wheels it will surely pick up more power at the top end.

Yeah let us know. The only thing that's gonna kill you is breaking those tires loose. Wonder if you could launch in 4WD and flip back to 2WD after you hooked up......................

i was wondering that too. isnt that not good though? to shift from 4 to 2 while accelerating so fast? if its possible, i think that would be the ideal run.

4wd to get you outtta the hole, and 2wd to push you down the track.

I'm not sure I'd want to be the one to test the theory that's for sure, but you're right, that would be ideal.

At Diesel Thunder, there was a gal there that goes around the country racing. She does 11.89 in the 1/4 mile. She says she HAS to start in 4wd or it wont work. She says she spins too much otherwise.

2 or 4..hmmm..

My friends and I have thought a little bit about this too. Obviously I get a better launch by a slight powerbrake, but if I get a little much the tires will cut loose like i'm driving on ice. But it's a tough question to answer. I've seen trucks at the track without a doubt launching in 4 wheel cuz there's no way they could launch like that in 2. Also, is the truck really working harder pushing 4 tires instead of 2? In 2, 100% of the power is going to the rear. I thought that when it goes into 4, it puts a smaller percentage of the total 100% to the front, say something like 30 or 40 percent I think. I know it isn't 50/50. And it's still pushing the same weight so I don't really see how the engine is working any harder.
I was experimenting with a little burning out last night and the new TS chip can turn my 35's so much easier than my old superchip. Even on 2 week old brand new pads and rotors on the rear. I was impressed, as last time I tried to roast 'em it wouldn't shift into second. But I think last night I could have gone into overdrive and still had 'em spinning! So when I do actually go to IRP and run my truck I'm gonna have to experiment myself.
Anyone else see the Team Ped crew member nearly get run over by his driver at IRP the other day?
