Fan Cycling often with AFE intake installed

Hey guys,
I need help understanding what is going on with my truck.
I have a 2006 F250, ARP studs, oil cooler, 4" turbo back exhaust, and EGR delete installed about 15,000 miles ago. A couple of months ago I installed an AFE intake on the truck. Since then the cooling fan would cycle anytime i was at low speed or had been stopped for a while. So, I pulled the intake off and put stock back on and it quit. Obviously it is intake temp that is causing my fan to cycle, but I thought the purpose of a cold air intake was to drop intake temps. Is that not correct???? I have searched on here and haven't been able to find anyone else with the same issue. Thanks in advance for your response.

Did you do the egr delete the same time as the cac, unplugging the egr causes problems with fan operation. Mainly the fan not operating at 100% but this could be your problem, if you still have your egr valve plug it in and secure it in the valley somewhere.

Can you go into more detail on why?

The EGR was deleted when i got the studs, I had driven the truck for a year with the delete before getting the intake. I run a SCT with custom tunes that is suppose to fix that problem with the late model 6.0.

With the intake on and going down the road, even with a load on a hot day the cooling fan rarely cycles. But as soon as I stop or slow below 35 mph it will start to cycle. With the stock intake back on the fan rarely cycles at all.

Its in the programming, ecu uses input from egr valve for fan speed, Matt at gearhead told me to leave the egr plugged in even with custom tunes. For the OP this is a weird problem, I haven't had any problems with my fan operation with my S&B installed. I would try egr valve first, are you throwing any codes with the cac installed?

That's when I hear mine unless my coolant is pushing over 220 on the hwy.

Also to clarify I have a short ram AFE intake with cone filter that is exposed under the hood. Temperature under the hood gets hotter when the vehicle slows thus making the intake air go up. I guess what i really want to know is: if the exposed AFE filter allows hotter air to be drawn in than a stock air box is there any advantage to having it??

So is it worth buying a used then? bought the truck deleted.

Ok, I'll try plugging in the EGR valve and see if that makes a differance with the intake on.

Very well could be IAT, do you have a monitor? Ecu might be kicking the fan on from pulling in hot air.
