UOA at 90K
No questions about oil, just thought I'd share.
This is my first UOA. Bought the truck used with 58K, so this makes me feel better about the internals ![]() I've always run Motorcraft. This was my first use of Rotella T 15W40 - I changed that to T6 5W40 when I pulled this sample. I'll run that to 7,500 miles and pull another sample. If that looks OK, that'll be my plan from now on. I pulled the sample cold, probably explains the trace of fuel. Edit: cold is relative - ambient was 85, and about a mile drive to the shop, so oil temp was up around 110 when I pulled it.

Nice looking report with wear metals in check.
With such a good looking report why the switch to 5w-40? I know you didn't have this information at the time of your oil change, but you have it to compare the two at your next interval. Don't worry about your viscosity being below 40wt(barely), me along with several others have been running 10w-30 in these 6.0's for years with great results. |

No real reason other than reading some of the debate on here, and if I get away with 7500 mile intervals, it'll still be cheaper even running the more expensive oil vs. the 5K intervals I've been doing. Also, the idea of a good full synthetic just makes sense to me the more I learn about these injection systems. I plan to have this truck a long time, so I figure it can't hurt.

google Blackstone Labs. I'd post the link, but it's easy to find. On their website you request a free sample kit that comes with all the instructions. Then you just pull the sample during the oil change (or pump a little out the dipstick tube if you don't want to wait). The normal test is 25 bucks, but adding the TBN analysis makes it 35. Cost me 4 buck to ship it, got results in 3 days.

I've had zero issue running 7,500 OCI, with UOA's.
Unfortunately with Rotella I think you are going to be disappointed at your next UOA at 7,500 mi. I tried it with sub-par results, it seems to hold up just fine at 5,000 mi. intervals though, but pricey. |

What 10W30 are you running?
Obviously I'm not opposed to trying different things - I've run three different oils in my last 3 changes! Are you talking about Rotella in general or just the T6? |

The 10w-30 I use is John Deere Plus 50 II (CJ-4), the "Plus 50" in the name refers to 50% over owners manual interval, of course this is in their own engines with their filters. There is a long thread here with several UOA's posted, including one of mine, and at 7,500 mi. every report is a carbon copy of the previous one. |

I'll see if I can dig up that thread.
Thanks for the input - that's why I joined this site - I learn something new every time I log on. |
