Exhaust tone

The exhaust tone of my truck at idle changes from the turbo whistle to more of a rumble then goes back to the whistle. It will do this if i let it idle for more than a, minute is thus normal?

Thats the vanes in your VGT cycling. My buddies truck does the same thing and I think it sounds bad a$$ but mine won't do it, I don't know for sure why but I have read somewhere that when the egr is deleted (full delete, valve and all) and you restart the truck it doesn't get to relearn the idle vgt cycle or something to that effect. I wish mine did do it cause it would really piss my neighbors off lol. So anyone know how to get mine to do it again???

That makes sense it didn't do it until i just did my delete. Do I need to do a turbo relearn?

I have full EGR delete and just installed a few weeks ago 4" MBRP no muffler/ kitty. Mine does same thing. Interesting to hear why. I was wondering same thing as OP , but I think it sounds bad a$$ as well

It's part of the VXCF9 strategy. My truck did it until I tuned it. Since the tune is based off of the VXCF4 it doesn't do it anymore. I might see if Matt can add it back at some point.

My buddies that does it is an 03 though with the egr system still in place and functioning. So I don't know why it does it but I want mine to do it.

Mine does it with egr delete and valve still in place. I'm running SRL but I think it is written to a newer strategy, I'm guessing with the vgt cycle. Haven't checked strategy yet. Sounds intimidating. Would be pretty sick to get a constant idle like that.

As long as its not hurting anything i like the sound just didn't know if it was indicating something was wrong. I wish it would always sound like that I like the low growl.

It is normal. My 03 does it - I have the VXAP2** strategy.

mine did the same thing for a while then it was a straight up rumble at idle and acceleration, the exhaust note changed considerably. wound up being my ebp sensor, replaced it and i have the turbo whistle back at both idle and acceleration.
