300 Amp SPX series alternator! just ordered one, soon my charging issues are history

i have had my -03 Excursion about two years now and have all this time wonder why in the world the voltage never seems to go up 14v or little over it like evry other cars i have seen.

and i have seen some cars in past 15 years working as a car mechanic...

i have try to resolve the problem in evry possible ways i can think of without changing the factory setup.

(two new alt and two set of optima batterys and with normal batterys, new wiring and nothing helps and the list goes on what i have try)

there just are not enough amps coming from the stock alt what the truck needs!

soon i should have more than enough amps and no need to charge my batterys once a week when winter arrives to here north europe...

if your at 14v now don't expect more

you will have more amps and more available at IDLE but you do not want to see huge voltage #'s that will cook a battery

Some system(I don't know if ours is) are temperature compensated. For me, the Optima batteries have not worked that well. Your voltage has to do with your regulator setting(not adjustable by normal means). Might I suggest the dual alternator setup that was a factory option. And as always with battery/charging systems make sure all connections are clean and tight, both positive and negative!

ford has a procedure to go from duals to a single ALT but they don't advise going from single to duals .. and I am not sure why? ,, but the dual to single requires a wire loom mod
maybe the harness not being set up for duals is the issue ?

Yea, and if I recall, it has some PCM program mods. Maybe not that simple after all. I have the dual setup, but it was factory orderd. Nothing is easy anymore.

yes all positive and negative cabels has check and re check many times
even try with new cabels and extra cabels.

i can see almost 14v after 30mile drive when evry possible thing is off and rpm's around 2000

but cause i live in Finland and the weather is close to Alaska i think?
here is long and cold winters and it is allready some mornings like 40F or under couple of months and it drops to zero and from there -25F - -30'F

and i sure like to use lights heater and rear heater for kids

yesterday we came home and i let the truck idle couple of minutes the voltage was around 13.5 with noting on.
then i put all on what i can think of,
low and hi lights front and rear heater rear window heater ,radio, dvd push the brake and the voltage drops 11.8

and i dont like that at all. when i drive small and pitch black country roads i hate when let off the gas and push brake head lights dims and blower motor dims and when back to gas all brights up again...

im going to install webasto diesel heater to my truck and it use truck own heater motors to heat up the cabin so it will stress and drain the batterys 1/2 - 1 hour mornings before i start the truck so with my current situation it would be hope and dreams to try start the truck afer that.

If you dont upgrade the wiring, your asking for trouble.

this is where your new alternator will really benefit you ,, I think yours may be fine just overtaxed with everything on at IDLE

also you should not see your lights and blower dim when letting off the throttle your batteries shouldn't let a momentary drop in alternator voltage
impact the lights and fan so quickly in My opinion
