going from a can tune to a custom tune do i need to put the truck back stock before i load the custom tune? First custom tune and I cant wait!!!!!

First, hook up your SCT to your PC and save a copy of your stock tune to your PC. Just in case you have issues, you can get a recovery file from SCT to get your truck up and running again.

Now I've seen members do this before, play around with their SCT on a weekend. Then by dumb luck, they have issues with loading tunes or worst, no start. So now they end up with a truck that don't start, and SCT is closed for the weekend.

I know your excited to try out your custom tunes, just be sure you understand that if there is a issue, the forums can only do so much.


Now for your question, it's recommended to return to stock when ever you switch tunes, BUT most of us don't. We just jump from one tune to another. You need to decide if the reward is worth the risk. I personally don't return to stock when switching tunes.

when swapping or tweaking from same mfg tune to tune (like Gearhead to Gearhead) I don't return to stock (way faster)

but any swaps between tune writers Matt /Eric or canned I do go back to stock .. just like mentioned .. to play it safe

on roaddtrips I bring my laptop/stock file and SCT along with My A/E LOL

Ok so set it up on street tune then hook scanner back to my computer and save my stock tune. I was my worried about blowing HG. I wasn't looking for more power just getting CEL off.

It's highly recommended to save your stock tune to a PC, poop happens sometimes and your SCT device might have a chance of messing up your truck (no start). I also recommend saving your stock file and all your custom tunes to a external storage device, just in case your PC takes a dump and you lose all your files. I use a flashdrive to save a copy of all my tunes, only because one time my kids accidentally deleted some of my tunes off my PC.

Thanks guys for all the help! I want to give Erik from innovative diesel a huge thank you for the Quick service I ordered the tune about 2 today and had it at 4!!! Thanks to Brian at sct for walking me through the set up and making sure it worked. The extreme street tune is AWESOME!
