Oil and coolant questions???

I wanna change oil and coolant. What is recommended? This truck is new to me and i have some left over stuff from my 7.3 but wanna do the right thing here for the 6.0 I have the external oil cooler and relocated filter. I also have the coolant filter installed. The truck also has the Bullet Proof EGR and studs. This was all done at Diesel Tech in San Jacinto. The truck currently has a Baldwin B5134 filter for the coolant and a Car Quest 85832 filter for the oil. I just picked up Napa gold filter in the respective cross reference as 1832 (oil) and 4070 (coolant).

I agree with the oil, not the coolant.

yeah you wouldnt want to mix the gold with the ELC. It would be a good idea to run the restore flush products too to get all of the crap out of the system that the gold will have left for you. There are some really good threads that run you through the procedure. Will take a good part of a day to do it right.

As an FYI - my ECT / EOT deltas were fine so I only flushed with distilled water (no chemicals) when changing to the ELC coolant. It has worked just fine.

You said that you have the external oil filter, if this is the BPD air cooled unit, then I really don't see any problem with you running the ford gold coolant. The reason that you don't want to run it stock is because it will stop up the stock oil cooler, you no longer have that and coolant no longer flows through the oil cooler. Also if you have the BPD unit then that NAPA filter that you have is fine.

I run ELC in mine with the BPD cooler only because its free and I dont want to have to worry about replacing it every 50k miles.

On the other hand if you have the other oil cooler relocation kit (can't remember the name) and coolant still flows through the cooler, then you need to get the gold out and the red in.

Good point! R u using the Napa 1832 filter with your BPD? What's the bought of going synthetic vs just sticking with the motorcraft or delo? I change it every 3k anyways. How often should the coolant be hanged and or flushed?
