What's it worth?
'03 6.0 KR 4x4 C/C long bed, 281,000 mikes, original owner. All stock. Looking to trade in for F150, all I get from sales guys is "too bad it's not a 7.3". Only offering 5000-7000 for trade. Blue Book trade value is 10,000. I should report them for "attempted theft". Has anybody bought one with high mileage lately, what did you pay for it? I may just keep it, and Bullet proof it, and have a back-up work truck.
Thanks |

Edit - my first run at KBB didn't keep the 6.0L engine option and I got $5000. Modified the options to reflect the 6.0L engine and it gave the $10,000.
So, it appears that KBB values the engine as a $5000 upgrade (even at 281,000 miles). I am not sure that is all that accurate. I am looking at 2006 and 2007 trucks with half that mileage for less than $20k. I would think the value is probably around the $7k range - private sale. That is a lot of miles. Another way to look at it is estimate the average life of a vehicle (which Ford intended the 6.0L for around a 350k mile service life IIRC). So if you have 70k miles left, that is about 3 years of driving on average. At $10k that is almost $300 a month cost to drive a 9+ year old truck. That is pretty high IMO. The 06's and 07's at 130k miles and under 20k miles come out to be less than $200 per month of remaining life. That is what I genearly shoot for in looking at buying used trucks. I just looked up my truck on kbb. 150k Miles and comes in at 15-18k. Ext cab short bed. Most of options. I would think that between 5-10k for your truck would be a deal if body itself is in great shape.

The body's in great shape, just some light hail dings on the hood. Full replacement front and heavy duty rear bumper. Just needs a set of tires.
Thanks for the replies! |

What's hurting you is that it's a 6.0 without studs at 280k. So potential buyers look at it with an upfront cost of about 3k if things go south fast
