more ficm ?'s
I have 58ficm in my truck, I was told by a diesel mechanic going higher with voltage will max out the injectors a little more, tuning it will max them out even more but its not smart. For example its pretty much the same as putting 100 watts into a 60 watt bulb, or unplugging a 120volt appliance and plugging it into 210 service.

Not sure about the source, but that is simply not the case.
There are more than a few guys running high voltage FICMs, both tuned and otherwise, and haven't heard/seen anything damaging about it. What is taking out injectors isn't the higher voltage, its folks not paying attention to their Fuel Pressures as they push the electronic tuning. |

I know I'm probably the only person here with a non tuned ficm! I got the 58v as a slight upgrade but when I got it the seller said ficm tuning was all hype so I opted out.
This might be a dumb question but is the actual temperature of the ficm hotter when tuned? |

You're not the only one. I'm still running the un-modified stock FICM unit.
There is a curtain increase to temps, but I doubt its anything worth mentioning. Do you know which FICM tune you want to install with that MTW Stage 2 under the hood? (If you don't mind, shoot me a PM with your opinion and thoughts about that turbo. I'd like to hear what you think about it.) |
