All diesel
I just bought a 2000 VW Jetta TDI. Has 250k miles on it. Runs great. I drive from indy to Chicago for work every week. Last 2 trips I got 45 mpg. The truck would cost me about $40 a trip. Jetta cost $15 that's the most so far. I'm very happy with it do far. See how it all goes from here. I miss driving my 6 oh. But I wanna keep the miles off of her for now.

Really interested in a TDI also. Found an 02 Jetta with 274K miles, he wants $5K, i think $4,200 is a good offer, that would cover taxes and tags.
Is there anything to look for on these when purchasing them? |

Timing Belts are the biggest thing I believe, since they are interference motors. Look for when it was last changed and plan on changing it when you get it just as a baseline. And 200k is barely broken in...just my .02

I knew nothing about them other than they run forever. I paid $3500 for mine. An 02 with 246k on it. I already changed the glow plugs and wire. I have read about the timing belt being a problem. Prolly should replace mine. I was also told to change the oil you have to pull out a pan that covers the under side. I am taking it to a VW dealer to do so. I don't have access to a lift. Plus I work 72 hrs a week and have no life!!! I love mine so far. 44 mpg average but only with 5 fill ups
