Weird engine noise

Hey guys-

I've had a weird noise at times that i want to address before i start modding. When i start the truck and its idling, this noise like something metal loose and vibrating comes and goes under the hood. I have searched high and low around the motor and can't find anything loose. I believe it is the fan hitting the fan shroud. That seems to be where it is most noticeable by sound and feel.

Truck is a 2007 f250 outlaw. I have a video i will try to attach.

Thanks.

First off, it appears that you may not be running a motorcraft oil filter. If you are not, that is a bad idea. Next, those intake pipes look good, are they powder coated?

Now, diesels are loud, hard to diagnose sounds like that. My guess is that it's the ac compressor, see if the noise corresponds with the ac kicking on and off, or an idler pulley going bad. You would need to loosen the drive belt and check the pulleys by hand. If you think it is the fan or fan clutch, see if the noise corresponds with the fan speeding up. lastly sometimes the best way to figure this out, is to get a piece of hose and CAREFULLY move it around the engine compartment while holding it up to your ear. Jmo.

The intercooler pipe is just cleaned/primed/painted. I did it went I was rebuilding the turbo, which I polished out (lol!). How can you tell about the oil filter? I haven't done an oil change yet, but I have T6, Rev-X, and a Motorcraft filter ready to go. Gonna do it this weekend.

I'm wondering if the noise might be the fan clutch. It stops right after the truck warms up. Only does it at idle, and only a moment or two.

Your oil filter cap is tall.....read this very important info. You may need a new oil filter cap also. http://alliantpower.com/injectors-6.0LTB.html

Have to agree with southend on the A/C or pulley.
