Oil cooler???
So my up pipe cracked and instead of paying $$$ for a stock replacement I'm just going to do a sinister egr delete with up pipe. My question is should I rebuild the oil cooler too? Cruising at 70mph while its 85-90 degrees out my oil temp never gets over 200. Also the coolers/headgaskets were done a month and about 500 miles before I bought the truck. Granted I've had it for 2 years and put 45k on it.

Whats the difference in your coolant temp and your oil temp? Just over 200 doesnt sound bad if your coolant numbers are ok!

if it's not.much over 200 you shouldn't need to worry about it but if you are then do it for the peace of mind if it's never need done. If you do make sure you do a.good.flush first so.you never have to do it again.

My delta is around 8-9 during normal driving, when the up pipe cracked I was towing 6k through the hills in new york and the biggest delta I saw was 15* but only after a long up hill and it leveled right back out. Another ? should I do a full flush? is there any chance of loosening up some debris and causing a clogged situation somewhere down the road?

Your oil cooler sounds fine to me. Flushing with water (distilled) should be fine. What kind of coolant are you running? The chemical flush will definitely loosen up anything that might be in there. If your deltas were 20+ then do thorough chemical flush and replace oil cooler afterwards.
Check out IPR's egr delete kit. One piece design and supposed to be better fitting. |
