you should've told me

Just changed out my air filter with the Motorcraft FA1778 from Diesel Filters Oinline ($46.19 plus shipping).

Wish someone would have told me to watch out for the little clamps coming off of the filter housing. Arrrrrg Of course I had one pop off when i was doing best 2 out of 3 falls with the filter... And, of course it fell down and got lost inside the bracket that holds the drag bar (?) Barely visible, nearly inaccessable. Took me 5 minutes to change the filter and an hour to find the dang clamp and fish it out.

Note to other newbies like me: Make sure you don't knock off/drop the clamps when doing a filter replacement!

Attached are pictures of theold filter. the outflow side of the filter looked like it had oil on it (mostly on the top side). Do you think someone oiled the OEM filter i just took out?

Anyway, job complete, now going to order my SCT X3 w/ SRL 8K tow!!!

PS 05 X, 6.0L, 84K miles...new to me (my first diesel)

thanks for all of your help on the forum!

The stock airbox is such a PITA that I bought a CAI just so I wouldn't have to go through what you just experienced again.

I bump those damn clips off EVERY TIME! I've gotten pretty quick at changing the stock air filter in and out. I can probably do it in about 10 seconds. Anyone got a better time???
