towing questions or concerns...?

Hello Everyone,
I havent been on here in awhile been dealing with some other issues, but I have been meaning to get on here and ask some questions about my truck.

I have been towing the camper around this spring and summer. It is a 21' travel trailer that weighs 5,000lbs loaded, so it isnt a heavy load for my truck. I have been running Vivians tow tune with the jake brake and that is awesome.

Here are some average numbers while towing these last couple of trips.

EOT 230-240
ECT 220-230
EGT 900-1100
TFT 175-185

Boost 18-20 (cruising at 70mph)
RPM 2000 (cruising at 70mph)

The trips have been flat two lane roads in eastern New Mexico and West Texas with outside temperatures between 90-100.

My MPG pulling that trailer at 70mph has been between 8-9, which seems low for those speeds and that weight of trailer.

Also on this last trip home I went to pass a slower vehicle got the truck up to about 80mph to pass and the EGT jumped up to 1250(alarm going off on Edge Insight) and it stayed there for about 4 or 5 miles and wouldnt come down, I slowed the truck down and once I got the truck under 50 mph the EGT started to come down and then was down the rest of the trip home. Also when the EGT was up that high the truck was smoking black smoke, not a lot but some enough that my brother inlaw behind me noticed it. What would cause the EGT to jump up and stay here even after slowing down back to crusing speed?

Overall the truck seems to be towing good and seems to be running alright just some of those numbers seem high to me and I wanted to check on those, I am also concerned about the high EGT while passing.

I would also like to be able to increase my MPG while towing, it just seems low to me. I dont know if there is something that Vivian can tweak to help improve the MPG.

What do you guys think of those numbers?

your EOT and ECT seem a bit high. I towed a 21' in Colorado a week ago and my ect never got above 225 climbing a crazy grade. On the highway it was at approx 209-212. I also got about 15MPG driving at 70MPH towing the same trailor....Hand calculated. Temp outside was about 105. Your EGT's seem right on. high temps dont start till about 1200 I have my defuel set at 1350.

(Always Faithful) is the motto of the Corps. That Marines have lived up to this motto is proved by the fact that there has never been a mutiny among U.S. Marines.
