4x4 Question
2006 with auto hubs....
When I place into 4x4 it will go in and function correctly for a few moments. Then it slips out. 4x4 light stays on. Even does it in manual. Ideas? |

You're saying that it does it when you manually lock in your hubs? Mine was doing something similar a little while back. It would make noises (like it was engaging) and then it wouldn't be. Turned out I had a vacuum leak because my downpipe had melted the line... The tranny thought the truck was locked in, because it seemed to be geared down (if that makes any sense) but my front wheels would not pull. For me, it turned out to be an easy fix... Hope yours is too!! I don't know if this helped, but I tried! Good Luck!

Loss of vaccuum when in auto, but when you lock it manually it should work okay. Something else is happening here, it doesn't make sense. Are you absolutely certain your 4x4 isn't working when in manual?

Yes, just kinda acting like its poping in and out. No vac leak, even used a gauge to check the entire system. All good. And yup, same deal in manual.
So what in the transfer case could do this? 4x lights do work and it will go in 4x4 low. Just only the rear wheels work after a few seconds. |

Dead Thread. Do have ANOTHER vac leak. Rear hub seal. Dumb.

Should not affect when you're locked manually. Have you changed the oil in your differentials lately?

I would start by draining the fluids and looking for metal. sounds like you ether have an issue with the transfer case or the hubs need to be replaced. If you replace the hubs I recommend the warn gold. You will lose the auto feature but they do not make an after market auto hub for our trucks. The light by the way just comes on when it should be engaged. doesn't mean it is. Just an FYI if you didnt know.

Sounds like a bad locking hub to me.
