Test drove an 06 today.

Truck looks absolutely stunning, a banker here pulled his 5th wheel with it 65% of the time and the rest was general driving.

It is a 4x4 Lariat, 112k. Truck is as tight as a 40,000 mile ride and looks according other than a few minor door dings.

When we test drove it, the thing ran like a top but felt under powered (after just 3 or 4 minutes of running). I didn't hammer it but about 3/4 throttle I thought WTF this is a great looking truck but runs like a dog.

So I babied it for about 10 miles, turned around and eased into it at full throttle it and it started squealing the rear tires.

My question is,, does the computer "de-tune" the engine until it is warm or is it something else?

The truck ran night and day different.

We had an 04 and it ran real good all the time.

Thanks in advance,

Ty

The truck will not allow full power under 120 ECT I believe. You Never want to really get on it until its at normal temps anyway. If you do that's one way to kill it.

Let me clarify, I was not drag racing it or driving it like I stole it

Just cruising at about 45 or 50 and gave it 3/4 throttle and seemed sluggish.

Thanks for the reply

funny you should say that I went today and bought a mechanical fuel gauge because my glowsift didn't seam to be working (I just installed) and I think I do have a fuel problem, so to the OP might want to check that.

I would ask about maintenance records. Check for regular oil changes and fuel filter changes. Also if he used ford filters. Also like RRF said i dont believe full power comes in till the truck is warmed up greater than 120*-thats from personal experience as well.

I suppose if I get it dealt for Monday I will buy something to watch the Deltas, and when I get the $$ saved up do a complete Bulletproof on it.

The local Ford Mechanic says I am crazy to BP it, he says if it was gonna crap out it would already but I would rather be safe than sorry.
