Fuel tank mod question

After I bought my truck I was very disappointed to find out it only had a 30 gallon tank on it. But recently i have discovered it will hold a lot more. Normally when filling up I let it shut off then I pump a more until it shuts off twice more. I noticed that if I let it sit for a few minutes to let the foam settle and then start pumping really slow, I can get another 8 gallons in. I filled up the other day with 28 gallons and my gauge showed 1/8th tank before filling. I love the extra range I get, specially with all the traveling I'm doing this summer. So I'm wondering if there is a mod I can do to this tank to help control the foam so I can get my tank completely full?

Yes, it's called the hutch mod or the harpoon mod. You drop the fuel tank and trim the vent tube that extends into the fuel tank.

Thanks for the info on this. I think ill take this on this weekend. Question though, when I read the walk though on the link provided the poster only cuts one tube but in the pics above you can tell two tubes are cut. So which is it, one or two tubes need to be cut?

One or both. But you want the vent tube cut. You can cut the filler tube if you wish.

Yeah, I hate when that happens. That would have been the best time.

I got it down to about 3 gallons last night so I dropped the tank and did the mod to the vent tube. I was able to get 31 gallons in a "30 Gallon" tank that already had about 3 in it. I was able to fill it up to the cap very easily. Thanks again .org members.
