WTF is this?

Hey guys, just got finished adding the block heater cord to the truck, changing fuel filters for the first time since I have owned the truck, and pulled and cleaned the EGR valve.

Upon swapping the filter on the frame rail took a closer look at the pleats, and notice what seems to be RTV sealant that has degraded, and some other white stuff that resembles grocery bag like material, maybe teflon tape. Just to pick your brains before I get to looking my self, any one think of where one might use RTV from the fuel tank to the first fuel filter on the frame rail?

Never seen that before. Maybe the past owner had a leak at the fuel sensor/tank seal and used RTV. You might even picked that crap up from where you buy fuel at.

That is true too. Being in some of the other countries and seeing what was in our boat tanks is nasty and sometimes odd has to how it got there.

So I went to do the blue spring upgrade today. And look at what I found on my FPR!!!!!! The RTV bandit has struck again. I can only hope that this is not going any further that the filter.

I have no idea. When I got the oring out it was very brittle, so I would assume this is why RTV was used. I bought the international kit that came with everything. So it is all cleaned up and good to go now.

wow, thats nasty, given you have found this I would get a HFCM cover gasket and take the side cover off as you could have that stuff between the inlet pipe and fuel heater if your has one... I had some stuff stuck there on mine and I didn't have that mess.
