no boost and terrible noise could it be turbo?

ok well as i was driving today my truck hit 100k on the odo literally as it hit 100k i heard an odd noise and lost all boost. i checked my charge piping and everything looked good. pulled off the intake tube and checked out the turbo from the inlet side and all seemed good. put it back together and still no boost and had a whining sound when i started it up. checked my cts when it happened and i had a p0284 8th cylinder continuty or something like that. i cleared the code after i checked everything and it did not come back but i still have no boost and the shreaking noise at start up. this is also causing really really bad smoke but i am thinking that is from the lack of air in the combustion chamber. just looking to get some sort of varification before i pull the turbo to check it out. thanks guys.

update just pulled the turbo and found that the shaft is snapped so i will be on the hunt for a new turbo. unless anyone thinks that it would be better to rebuild it. never done it before and not sure how difficult it would be. or if it would be more beneficial to just buy a whole turbo. i can get a remaned for around 900 not sure how much a turbo rebuild kit plus a shaft would be. anyone with any advice please let me know.

i wish this would have happened a few weeks from now when i would have some extra money laying around. would have just went with a powermax but no of course it happens when i am very tight on funds.

Yea, were all tight on funds I think. Rebuilding takes precision balancing, not a good idea. Imho
