SCT Livewire Question
Hey guys. I just bought my first diesel a few weeks ago. Currently it's 100% stock, but I have a long list of mods planned in the future (see sig).
Originally I had planned on first purchasing a SCT x3, getting some custom tunes, and an edge CTS. However, I came across a used SCT Livewire w/ the EGT probe (never installed) that I could buy for less than half the cost of a new X3. I've already read on here that the X3 & CTS combo is the way to go, and I still plan on going with the CTS. So my quesion is: can I use the livewire the same way that I could use an X3? By that I mean, can I just load my custom tunes onto the livewire, program my truck, and then unplug it and leave it in my toolbox? |

yes you can use the livewire the same as the X3, its basically the same unit just the live wire has a monitor. now im unsure if the egt probe that comes with it will work with the cts...or just the live wire.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think that the two probes would be compatible. Do you think that if I installed the egt probe and used it for a while until I decide to switch to the cts, I would be able to remove the sct probe and install the edge probe in the same hole?

depends on what size the tap and die is for the egt probe, not sure if its a universal thing or not. but i think the sct is an actual plug in to the live wire unit its self. or it sends the signal directly to the unit. if i were you id use the live wire as the monitoring system and use the egt probe for it since you got it. its not as streamlined as the cts but it works and it will save money. but thats me. nice truck btw and congrats on buying it

Thanks. I think that sounds like a smart idea. I really like the edge, but I guess the livewire will do the same thing and I can save $450 or so.

Their are some parameters that the Livewire can't monitor, but the CS/CTS can.
Have you seen the DashBoss for iOS devices (iPad/iPhone/iTouch)? Total monitoring for $300, this cost also includes monitoring EGT and Fuel psi. DashBoss monitoring review. |

that is true. fyi my only complaint about the live wire is the size, its like a first gen game boy pretty hefty. i mounted mine right next to the a pillar with my gps, and ran the wires through the dash so the size isnt an issue, other than that no complaints at all bout the livewire. heard really good things about the dash boss also.

Make sure the Livewire is UNLOCKED first though since it's used otherwise you will have to send it to SCT and pay $150 fee to get it unlocked.
Power it on either with the cord or OBII port ( if lost cord, it's the same thing as a ps3 controller charge cord ) and go to Device Info, it should say Unlocks Left 5 and under that either Device Married or Device Unmarried. |

What are some of the things that the cts will monitor that the livewire can't? Ficm voltage if i remember correctly?
I don't currently have an iphone, but i'm thinking about it for my next phone, so i'll have to look into the dash boss. I havent heard of it before, but it might be an option. I emailed the guy about the locked/unlocked status right when I found it and haven't heard back yet. Thanks for all the info guys! |
