Kenwood NAV Radio Installation?
I'm looking into this Kenwood Nav Radio and was wondering how they install?
Is it simply plug and play or do you need some sort of adapter for different vehicles? Kenwood's site isn't much help. Heres the one I'm looking at: Kenwood - DNX5190 |

You need a wire harness and a dash kit, they're about $15-$20 each. You can get them pretty much anywhere, even walmart has them. Super easy to install, match the wires from your new radio's wire harness to the wire harness you bought, and either solder or crimp them together, bolt in your dash kit and you're done. I've installed a few radios and 4 NAV units and it only takes me about an hour.
If you're buying online check out crutchfield.com, they'll send you everything you need to install with your radio for free. |

Thanks. I was trying to think of that site before and I couldn't remember it. They do have lots of great info for electronics.

I looked at that one when I was shopping for a NAV unit. My biggest gripe was the user interface was kinda choppy and had a delay between pushing the button on the screen and the screen changing to the selection.
I have a Pioneer Z-130BT and love it. The ipod connections are in the rear so no cables hanging out of the dash, the NAV works great (Make sure you hook up the speedometer sensing wire) and the user interface is seamless. The hack to allow video while driving for the kiddos is only about 5 min also. With either of these to get the steering wheel controls to work you need to get an adapter the plugs into the back of the head unit, they run about $50 and crutchfield will not send that piece free ![]() Dik |
